The Oakleys are here, the Oakleys are here!!!
Drs Eyecare is excited to announce that we now offer both Oakley ophthalmic frames and Oakley sunglasses. Most of the Oakley sunglasses are polarized. The Oakley line is available at our Irmo and Northeast locations. As with most of our sunglasses, the Oakleys are available in prescription and also “plano” or nonprescription.
Fashion sunglasses with nonprescription lenses are called “plano”sunglasses in the eyewear industry. This category of sunglasses is huge and offers many choices in styling, designer names and frame materials. Sunglasses protect your eyes from the sun's harmful UV rays and help keep the eyes and also contact lenses from drying out when outdoors. Sunglasses also shield the eyes from windblown debris, and of course, sunglasses just look cool.
Sunglass frame materials
Options for frame materials used in sunglasses include plastic (often called “zyl”) and premium metals such as titanium, stainless steel, aluminum and beryllium. These metals are strong yet very lightweight for comfort, and are also hypoallergenic and corrosion-resistant. The color and shape of the frame you choose depends on your personal style and preference. Don't be afraid to go bold---plano sunglasses are as much a fashion statement as they are a form of eye protection.
Sunglass lens materials
Options for lens materials include plastic, polycarbonate and glass. Polycarbonate lenses provide the greatest safety protection as they are less likely to shatter. Sunglasses can be tinted in a variety of colors and gradients and may have an anti-reflectant coating. Polarized sunglass lenses are also a desirable option, especially to those who spend a lot of time on the water boating or fishing. All sunglass lenses should block 100 percent of the sun's harmful UV rays.
